8 Formatting the NDAS device

This section will demonstrate how to format the NDAS in Windows 7. XP users may not

see all the same steps. Read carefully and watch for “Notes” that may pertain to your

OS or to the size of your storage device.

• If you installed a single disk which had data on it, you can probably mount it

right away and use it or you can erase the existing volumes or partitions and

start fresh.

• If you are using a new hard drive or a newly created NDAS Bind

Configuration, follow the steps in this section to get the device online.

8.1 Initialize NDAS device

1. Mount the NDAS Device as Read / Write from the NDAS Device Management

tool.

2. A window should appear asking to start Windows Disk Management.

Note: If this window does not appear:

• Right click Computer (or My Computer) and select Manage.

• Click Disk Management on the left side screen.

• Available disk storage will appear on the right.

3. Identify the new storage space that needs formatting. (You can dismount and

mount it again to make sure.)
